A fantastic research performance with about 100 original peer-reviewed articles per year is the direct consequence of the successful structural and personal interconnection of Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, and the Cardiovascular Research Institute Basel (CRIB) to form the University Heart Center at the University Hospital Basel. Research is like running a marathon; it takes "endurance strength" and an enormous amount of stamina to finally reach the finish line after many kilometers of hard work, i.e. to be able to add a small piece to the puzzle of medical knowledge with a methodically clean result.
