Heart & Muscle This prospective, multicenter, observational study aims to investigate the prevalence of elevated cardiac troponin T and I in the systemic circulation in patients with chronic skeletal muscle disease, as recent evidence suggests that cardiac troponin T may be elevated after chronic cycles of skeletal muscle injury and, in particular, regeneration. Last year, thanks to the excellent work of all team members and cooperators, we were able to enroll more than one hundred new patients in the Heart & Muscle Study, so that by the end of November 2020 we had successfully enrolled 444 patients from the four centers Basel, Zurich, Aarau and Innsbruck. In 2021, we also welcome the Inselspital Bern as a new study center, where planning is still in full swing. In addition, work continues with the first myopathy manuscript entitled Reliability of cardiac troponins for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction in the presence of skeletal muscle disease with first authors Jeanne du Fay de Lavallaz, MD-PhD, and Alexandra Prepoudis, MD.
